Simply dropping a T block into a spot will not trigger a T-spin. When the T block enters it, the last move you perform must be a turn. In order to perform a T-spin, you must create a T-shaped gap in your structure. You can also send garbage lines by successfully clearing rows with T-spins, an advanced Tetris move that requires the T block.
